The lodging rental website Airbnb has been growing and trending these past few years, and Jakarta is no exception.
The digital marketplace enables property owners to rent and share their private accommodations with travelers at low and reasonable rates. Not only is it cheaper than staying at a hotel, but renting rooms via Airbnb is a great way to get a more personal experience with your destination’s local culture and peoples.
If you plan to set foot in the capital city and would like use Airbnb, I have picked five accommodations that might offer a welcome alternative to a hotel.
Akanaka is a well-designed executive room rental establishment located in the prestigious Kemang area of Jakarta. Rooms are fully furnished and equipped with an en-suite shower with hot and cold water, flat screen TVs with paid channels, free Wi-Fi and free breakfast.
The property also has shared facilities, such as a spacious common living room, dining tables and a kitchen. Free laundry service and parking spaces are also provided, depending on the duration of your stay.
The room is open, airy, and shady, with a view of the Ciliwung River and forest. The house has a natural swimming pond. Located on the river bank right below the verandah, the eco-pool water is filtered through sand and gravel. There’s also a shower next to the pool with hot (solar-heated) water.
Sabruna is situated just 5 minutes from the Pasar Minggu Baru train station and just a few minutes walk from a traditional market selling fruits, vegetables and meat, which runs every morning until 10 a.m. In the evening, a series of street-food stalls cram the roadside. Plaza Kalibata, a middle-class shopping mall, is just a five-minute walk from Sabruna.
The house is situated just five minutes from Pondok Indah Mall, and it takes less than a half an hour to drive to Gandaria City. Daily cleaning service, laundry, and 24-hour-security is provided to ensure a comfortable stay. Guest can also use the main kitchen with permission from Rumah Opa’s representative.
Located in the Cempaka Putih area, the house consists of 7 bedrooms, but Herman Kosasih, the homeowner, rents just four to keep the house quiet. Most of the rooms are 4 x 5 meters wide and come equipped with a comfortable double bed, an artistic personal bathroom, a large cupboard and a Wi-Fi connection. Most also have views of a swimming pool and a small garden.
Guests are allowed to use the living room and the wooden balcony upstairs. A multi-channel TV is available in the living room and the studio. There is also a modern kitchen with facilities such as a refrigerator, a microwave and a stove that can be used for free. There is also an abundant supply of drinking water, coffee and tea.
The house is located in a calm residential area, so you can jog around the neighborhood safely. It is only five minutes from ITC Cempaka Mas, a trade center with restaurants, grocery stores, electronics shops and other shopping pleasures.
The property is a two bedroom apartment strategically located at the heart of Jakarta. It’s a parqueted cute Scandinavian styled apartment with convenience stores, restaurants, pizza stations, banks, laundry services, and taxi stands all available within the apartment’s establishment.
It takes only five to 10 minutes walk to Grand Indonesia, Thamrin City and the luxurious Plaza Indonesia shopping malls. Five-star hotels such as Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Mandarin Oriental and the Grand Hyatt are also in the vicinity. It’s also just a 15-minute-walk from the nearest TransJakarta bus station.
The owner of the apartment unit rents one room which can accommodate one person. An extra guest is welcomed, but he or she will have to sleep on the living room sofa. A coffee machine, towels, shampoo and shower gel is provided by the owner.
