With Bandung now receiving direct international flights from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore; traveling to West Java should have gotten easier than ever. But as the result of more exposure in the spotlight, Bandung has become more and more packed of tourists and shoppers especially on weekends. Traffic jams during public holidays and over weekends has been slowly suffocating not only people who visit Bandung, but also those who get to call this city as their home.
When it gets more crowded in Lembang and it takes much longer just to reach Dago Pakar, expanding your holiday options to other regions beyond Bandung is perhaps the best decision you can make to escape the bustle of the city.
Going South with only less than two-hour drive from Bandung, Garut serves as a perfect getaway gem. Its tourism industry is steadily growing through these past few years, that includes the growth in accommodation to cater an increase in the number of tourists especially during weekends.
In this post, I have picked 3 interesting places to stay in Garut which will guarantee you you an unforgettable holiday experience.
Kampung Sumber Alam
Strategically situated at the heart of Cipanas, Kampung Sumber Alam is a unique traditional resort that features thatched-roof covered wooden bungalows which are mostly perched on top of a large natural hot spring pond.
In the evening, the natural hot spring pond creates a romantic misty ambiance around the bungalows. Perched on the slopes of Mount Guntur, the resort easily streams hot spring from the mountain. All bungalows are equipped with bathtub, hot water shower and flat screened LED TV. Air-conditioners are not available in all the bungalows since the mountain air is already naturally cool all day long.
The resort is perfect for families and honeymooners with the natural cool air and a direct view of Mount Guntur. The resorts also has facilities such as fishing pond and flying fox that can be entertaining for the whole family member.
A big natural hot spring swimming pool is also available in the resort area but the pool is usually packed of visitors who do not stay at the resort on weekends. Alternatively, there are also several types of cottages at the resort which offer guests their own private natural hot spring soaking/swimming pool to provide guests more privacy.

Kampung Sampireun Resort & Spa
If you think staying around Cipanas won’t give you the solitude you seek, perhaps spending a night or two at Kampung Sampireun is a more suitable option for you.
Located in Ciparay village area, Kampung Sampireun offers guests a perfect solitude with its luxurious cottages made from bamboo and other natural materials. What’s unique about this resort is that most of the cottages are perched on the lakeside and can be accessible by personal canoe.
Situated 3,3000 feet above sea level, Kampung Sampireun also boasts cool weather and amazing mountain view. All of the cottages are also equipped with a unique semi-outdoor bathroom. In the morning, canoes selling local delicacies and handicrafts will pass by your cottages. While in the evening, serene Sundanese bamboo flute music can be heard across the lake.
Feeling adventurous? You can try canoeing around the lake or taking a 20-minute hike up to Kamojang Crater.

Kebun Mawar Situhapa
Initially opened in 2011, Kebun Mawar Situhapa is built in a 5 hectares rose garden in Samarang area, Garut which is situated at 1150 meters above sea level. The establishment now has 10 wooden villas that are perched on a hill directly overlooking Garut city and Mount Cikuray.
The flower garden itself does not only grow roses. The whole area is actually divided into a few zones: rose zone, begonia zone, azalea zone, water plants zone, and more and is a suitable place to hold a wedding ceremony or a pre-wedding photo session.
Although the wooden villas interior seem modest, actually the villas are decorated to make you feel at home. All the 10 villas are equipped with flat-screened LED TV, coffee maker, and complimentary bottled water. And the best part is that all the villas are surrounded by roses and other flowers. What could be more romantic than that?
